The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); 2 by the swimmers (angels) swimming gently 3 by the angels who hasten along 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 A Day shall come whereon the quaking will quake, 6 Followed by the second blast, 7 On that day hearts beat painfully 8 While eyes are downcast 9 The disbelievers say, “Will we really return to our former state?” 10 Even after we are crumbled bones? 11 They say: "Then this returning will be a dead loss." 12 But it will be only a single blow, 13 to bring them out of their graves and back to life on the earth's surface. 14 Has the story of Moses come to you 15 When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, 16 "Go unto Pharaoh - for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of what is right 17 And say to him, "Would you like to reform yourself? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 So he showed him the great sign, 20 but the Pharaoh rejected it and disobeyed (Moses). 21 Then he turned his back, striving. 22 And he summoned all his people, 23 Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". 24 So Allah seized him with the punishment of the Everlasting Life, and of this world. 25 Verily, in this is an instructive admonition for whosoever fears Allah. 26
