The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is folded up, 1 And when the stars darken, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 the young barren camels are abandoned, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 for what crime she had been slain, 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 When the world on High is unveiled; 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And Paradise brought near, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 I do not need to swear by the orbiting 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 nor is it a word of an accursed Satan. 25 Where to are you then heading? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
