They will ask thee of Dhu'l-Qarneyn. Say: I shall recite unto you a remembrance of him. 83 We established him in the land and gave him means to all things. 84 So he followed a course. 85 Until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of black muddy (or hot) water. And he found near it a people. We (Allah) said (by inspiration): "O Dhul-Qarnain! Either you punish them, or treat them with kindness." 86 He said: "Whoever doth wrong, him shall we punish; then shall he be sent back to his Lord; and He will punish him with a punishment unheard-of (before). 87 "But whoever believes, and works righteousness,- he shall have a goodly reward, and easy will be his task as We order it by our Command." 88 Thereafter he followed a way. 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield. 90 (He left them) as they were: We completely understood what was before him. 91 Then he followed (another) way, 92 Until, when he came between two mountains, he found before them a nation that did not appear to understand any speech. 93 They said: O Zul-Qarnain verily Yajuj and Majuj are working corruption in the land; shall we then pay thee tribute on condition that thou place between us and them a barrier! 94 He replied, "The power that my Lord has granted me is better (than your tax). Help me with your man-power and I shall construct a barrier between you and Gog and Magog. 95 Bring me blocks of iron to fill up the passage between the two mountains." He told them to ply their bellows until the iron became hot as fire. Then he told them to pour on it molten brass." 96 Thus they were not able to mount it, nor were they able to burrow through it. 97 and he said, "This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will level it to dust. My Lord's promise is ever true!" 98 ۞ Upon that day We shall leave them surging on one another, and the Trumpet shall be blown, and We shall gather them together, 99 On that day we shall present hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 whose eyes were covered against My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
