(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings 23 They said: 'Are we to follow a mortal who is one of us? Then indeed, we would surely be in error and insane. 24 "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 But they called their companion who took hold of her and hamstrung her. 29 How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 32 The people of Lut treated the warning. as a lie. 33 Verily, We sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lout (Lot), whom We saved in last hour of the night, 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 He had warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warnings. 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 And verily, an abiding torment seized them early in the morning. 38 "Taste My punishment now that you have scorned My warnings!" 39 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 40
