The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
