۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Are we not then to die 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
