Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 The command that We have been sending 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
