The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
