The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ruin is for the defrauders. (Those who measure less.) 1 Those who when they take the measure from others, take it in full! 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do they not think that they will be called to account?- 4 on a Great Day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 those who give the lie to the [coming of] Judgment Day: 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 Indeed! On that Day a barrier will be set between them and their Lord, 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is? 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 Those who are drawn near (to Allah) shall witness it. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 upon couches gazing; 23 thou knowest in their faces the radiancy of bliss 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 And when they passed by them, they winked at one another. 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
