and We saved the Children of Israel from a humiliating punishment 30 [inflicted on them] by Pharaoh, seeing that he was truly outstanding among those who waste their own selves; 31 We knowingly exalted them (i.e., the Children of Israel) above other peoples of the world 32 And granted them signs in which there was a plain trial. 33 Indeed these disbelievers proclaim; – 34 "That [which is ahead of us] is but our first [and only] death, and we shall not be raised to life again. 35 Bring us our fathers, if you speak truly!' 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba and those afore them? We destroyed them; verily they were culprits. 37 We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for Our own amusement. 38 none of this have We created without [an inner] truth: but most of them understand it not. 39 Verily the Day of Distinction is the term appointed for all of them. 40 A Day whereon a friend shall not avail a friend at all, nor shall they be helped. 41 save those to whom God shows mercy. Surely, He is the Mighty, the Merciful One. 42
