Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 The multiple and the one, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 into My Paradise. 30
