The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Who will be honoured 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those of the right hand. 38
