Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They said, “We shall return to our Lord.” 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
