The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
