The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
