The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
