The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 who should bring to you every skillful magician." 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
