Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 "My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity." 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 "And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised." 87 "The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons." 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 Nor a true friend; 101 "So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!" 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
