Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book, 2 We have made it an Arabic reading text so that perhaps you may understand. 3 It is in the Origin of the Book with Us, sublime and wise. 4 Should We have withdrawn the Reminder from you as you are a people who exceed the bounds? 5 And how many a prophet have We sent among the ancients. 6 And never came there a prophet to them but they mocked him. 7 We therefore destroyed the people who were more forceful than these, and the example of the earlier ones has already gone by. 8 Yet if you were to ask them: “Who created the heavens and the earth?” they will certainly say: “The All-Mighty, the All-Knowing has created them.” 9 Who has made the earth a cradle for you and made thereon paths for you so that, hopefully, you may find your way 10 And Who sendeth down water from the sky in (due) measure, and We revive a dead land therewith. Even so will ye be brought forth; 11 That has created pairs in all things, and has made for you ships and cattle on which ye ride, 12 so that perhaps when you ride them, you will recall the bounties of your Lord and when you establish your control over it you would say, "Glory belongs to Him who has made it subservient to us when we would not have been able to do so ourselves. 13 And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return." 14 And from* His bondmen, they appointed a portion for Him; man is indeed an open ingrate. (* Appointed some of His creation as His sons and daughters). 15
