The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
