The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
