The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to God. He has sent the Book to His servant and has made it a flawless guide (for human beings) 1 and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, 2 Wherein they shall remain for ever: 3 And to warn those who say, "God has taken to Himself a son." 4 Neither they nor their fathers had any knowledge of such utterance (that God has begotten a son). Whatever they say about (this matter) is vicious blasphemy and plain lies. 5 Yet perchance, if they do not believe in this tiding, you will consume yourself with grief and follow after them. 6 Lo! We have placed all that is on the earth as an ornament thereof that We may try them: which of them is best in conduct. 7 We will surely reduce all that is on it to barren dust. 8 Do you think that the people of the Cave and the Inscription (the news or the names of the people of the Cave) were a wonder among Our Signs? 9 [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance." 10 We then thumped upon their ears in the Cave for a number of years. (* Put them to sleep.) 11 Then We woke them up again so that We might see which of the two groups would better calculate the time they had stayed there. 12
