And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
