(Muhammad), remind them, by the Grace of your Lord, that you are neither a soothsayer or an insane person. 29 Or do they say: “He is a poet for whom we await an adverse turn of fortune.” 30 Tell them: “Wait; I too am waiting with you.” 31 is it their minds that prompt them [to say] this, or are they merely insolent people? 32 Or do they say, "He has invented it himself"? Indeed, they are not willing to believe. 33 Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful. 34 Were they created out of nothing, or are they their own creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no firm Belief. 36 Are with them the treasures of thy Lord! or are they the dispensers? 37 Or have they the means by which they listen? Then let their listener bring a clear authority. 38 Or, [if you believe in God, how can you believe that] He has [chosen to have] daughters, whereas you yourselves would have [only] sons? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Or that the Unseen in it their hands, and they write it down? 41 Or do they want to entrap [thee in contradictions]? But they who are bent on denying the truth - it is they who are truly entrapped! 42 Is theirs a god beside Allah? Hallowed be Allah from that which they associate! 43 And if they should see a fragment of the heaven falling down, they would say: it is only clouds piled up. 44 Hence, leave them alone until they face that [Judgment] Day of theirs, when they will be stricken with terror: 45 the day when their guile shall avail them naught, and they shall not be helped. 46 And verily for those who do wrong there is a torment before that; but most of them know not. 47 So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest, 48 And in the night-time also hymn His praise, and at the setting of the stars. 49
