The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of later ages, 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
