He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
