And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and to whom We had given the luxuries and comforts of this life, said: "He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink. 33 if you obey a human being just like yourselves, then you will surely be lost. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 He said, 'O my Lord, help me, for that they cry me lies.' 39 [Allah] said, "After a little, they will surely become regretful." 40 And the Cry seized them justly, and We made them as scum; so away with the people of the evildoers! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No community can anticipate their term, nor can they lay behind. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Thereafter We sent Musa and his brother Harun with Our signs and an authority manifest. 45 unto Pharaoh and his Council; but they waxed proud, and they were a lofty people, 46 So they said: shall we believe in two human beings like unto us, while their nation are to us slaves? 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water. 50
