He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
