Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
