The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
