The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
