Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ta'. Sin. Mim 1 These are verses from the Book that makes things clear. 2 We will recite to thee something of the tiding of Moses and Pharaoh truthfully, for a people who believe. 3 Pharaoh had exalted himself in the land and had divided its people into sects, one group he abased, putting their sons to death and sparing their women, for he was one of those who corrupted. 4 We wished to favour those who were oppressed in the land, and to make them leaders and make them inheritors [of Our bounties], 5 and to give them power in the land; and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts that very thing which they feared. 6 We revealed this to Moses' mother: 'Suckle him, but when you fear for him cast him into the water. Neither fear, nor sorrow because We shall restore him to you and make him among the Messengers' 7 And the family of Pharaoh took him up, that he might become for them an enemy and a sorrow, Lo! Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts were ever sinning. 8 And the wife of Fir'awn said: a comfort unto me and thee slay him not! belike he shall be of benefit to us or we might take him for a son; and they perceived not. 9 In the morning the heart of Moses' mother became empty. She would have revealed (who he was) had We not settled her heart so that she might be among the believers. 10 And so she said to his sister, "Follow him" - and [the girl] watched him from afar, while they [who had taken him in] were not aware of it, 11 ۞ We had already made him refuse all wet nurses. So his sister said to them, "Shall I tell you of a family who will bring him up for you and take good care of him?" 12 So We gave him back to his mother that her eye might be refreshed, and that she might no grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true, but most of them do not know. 13
