A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
