He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
