The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 If We opened a gate in the heaven and they kept ascending through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
