The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But as for him whose record shall be given to him behind his back; 10 Will pray for death, 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds), 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
