S (Saad)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Sad. By the Quran, full of admonition! 1 Nay! those who disbelieve are in self-exaltation and opposition. 2 How many ancient generations did We destroy? (On facing Our torment) they cried out for help, but it was too late for them to escape. 3 And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, "This is a magician and a liar. 4 Maketh he the gods One Allah? Lo! that is an astounding thing. 5 And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it. 6 We never heard of this in the former faith; this is nothing but a forgery: 7 Has the message been revealed to him out of [all of] us?" Rather, they are in doubt about My message. Rather, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Or have they the treasuries of thy Lord's mercy, the All-mighty, the All-giving? 9 Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: 10 this host too, among other hosts, is bound to suffer defeat. 11 The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes, 12 And (the tribe of) Thamud, and the folk of Lot, and the dwellers in the wood: these were the factions. 13 None of them was such that it did not deny the Noble Messengers, therefore My punishment became inevitable. 14
