The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
