The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
