The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
