He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
