The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. 4 So let man consider of what he was created; 5 He was created of spurting water 6 issuing from between the loins [of man] and the pelvic arch [of woman]. 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 on the Day when all secrets will be laid bare, 9 Then man will have no power or any helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 and the replenishing earth, 12 Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 They are devising guile, 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
