The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
