The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and for aspiration to involve them in play – so they will shortly come to know. 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term, nor do they put it back. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 And never does a Noble Messenger come to them, but they mock at him. 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
