And this (Qur'an) is a revelation from the Lord of all the worlds, 192 The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down 193 upon thy heart, [O Muhammad] so that thou mayest be among those who preach 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Was it not a sign for them known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 But [even] had We bestowed it from on high upon any of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it until they suffer the painful torment. 201 that will come upon them [on resurrection,] all of a sudden, without their being aware [of its approach]; 202 They will say, "Can we be granted any respite?" 203 Would they (now) hasten on Our doom? 204 Therefore observe, that if We give them some comforts for some years, – 205 Then there comes to them that with which they are threatened, 206 All that with which they used to enjoy shall not avail them. 207 We never destroyed a village that did not have warners 208 By way of admonition, and We have never been oppressors. 209 And it is not the Shayatin (devils) who have brought it (this Quran) down, 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed. 212 (Muhammad), do not worship anything besides God lest you suffer the punishment. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they disobey you, tell them, "I condemn your disobedient deeds". 216 Put thy trust in the All-mighty, the All-compassionate 217 Who watches you when you stand up. 218 and sees your movements among those who prostrate themselves: 219 Indeed only He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I tell you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying sinner, 222 on those who whisper hearsay in the ears of people; and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, the erring follow them, 224 Have you not seen them wandering and bewildered in every valley 225 And that they say what they do not do? - 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
