The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim 1 The Romans have been defeated. 2 in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors 3 Within a few (up to nine) years time; only for Allah is the command, before and after; and the believers will rejoice on that day. 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfill His promise - but most people know [it] not: 6 They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
