He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
