The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And raised couches; 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
