[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
