Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
